What is an IP address?
An IP address (Internet Protocol) is a unique numeric identifier of your device on a network. Your public IP is assigned by your internet provider and is visible to every website you visit.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses (e.g. 192.0.2.1), while IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses (e.g. 2001:db8::1). IPv6 is the newer standard that solves IPv4 address exhaustion.
Why does my IP address change?
Most providers assign dynamic IP addresses that change from time to time — after a router restart or after a certain period. A static IP is usually a paid service.
Can someone find my exact address from my IP?
No. A public IP only reveals an approximate location (city/region) and your internet provider — not your home address or identity.
